CBD Travel Guide – Everything You Need to Know

Cannabidiol is a prominent biological treatment used for numerous widespread disorders.

CBD (cannabidiol) as a therapeutic compound produced by cannabis, is often extracted and made into oils, gums, topicals, and other products that have certainly piqued your curiosity.  And with curiosity comes a lot of questions.

This guide is here to help and provide answers to the most common questions consumers have about CBD and how to travel or even fly with it.

Traveling with CBD products

As CBD becomes more accessible to the multitudes, there is no question that CBD will become the popular choice for relieving the stress and anxiety that accompany long trips, especially on the plane.  But can you fly with CBD oil?

CBD is only federally legal if it contains less than 3% of the approved THC (Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol); It was manufactured under certain regulations, and it is not sold as a food, drink, cosmetic additive, or dietary supplement.

The complex legality of CBD is the result of rapidly changing regulations and the confusion surrounding the distinction between hemp and marijuana.  As a result, there is often segregation between law enforcement agencies.

ThingsToCheckWhen Traveling with CBD

  • Limit yourself to THC-free CBD oil – Drug test kits used by law enforcement agencies can only detect the presence of THC and cannot tell how much it is.  It can take a while to replace those outdated field tests, which is why a THC-free CBD oil is your smartest choice when traveling.
  • Look closely for CBD products – You need to know what you are putting on or on your body.  Traveling with CBD makes it even more important to know the content of the product.  Make sure your products have been lab-tested and insist on seeing results.
  • Consumer-packaged CBD oils travel better – Police can’t distinguish between hemp flowers and marijuana.  This problem has created unnecessary arrests and general confusion in the market.  Tincture oils, capsules, and similar products packaged by consumers are one less source of confusion for law enforcement agencies.

Another important tip for when you want to fly with CBD: Be aware of the TSA flight rules for liquid containers, vaporizer pens, and e-cigarettes.  According to these rules, passengers can only carry vaporizers and e-cigarettes in their hand luggage on the plane.  For security reasons, these items are not allowed in checked baggage.

The cabin is pressurized, and the trunk is not.  So, if at the end of your trip you don’t want a broken vape pen that now has all the good stuff to decorate your clothes, just store it in your carry-on.

Fortunately, you can avoid the whole problem with products like CBD capsules or CBD gum, as they would in no way violate the TSA liquid standards.

Finally

To play it safe and avoid any legal charges, or at least a delay while you wait for the TSA to go through your purse and check the rules, you may as well decide to leave your CBD products at home.

However, if you need to travel with CBD products such as FDA-approved drugs, always have a copy of the product’s certificate of analysis and familiarize yourself with the laws of the particular states you will be traveling to.
